Consumer Law Defense

Our Consumer Law Practice Group is dedicated to the defense of financial institutions, creditors, collection agencies, attorneys, hospitals, and other businesses facing state and federal consumer-protection statutory lawsuits. Specifically, this practice group represents clients in multiple jurisdictions facing lawsuits brought under the Federal Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”), Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”), and Telephone Consumer Practices Act (“TCPA”). Our group has defended thousands of consumer lawsuits in these areas. Our practice also includes the defense of claims brought by governmental regulators overseeing entities involved in the credit and collection industry.

As part of our practice, Bassford attorneys routinely provide risk management advice to collection industry participants and professionals. We regularly defend individual and class actions brought under the TCPA, FDCPA and FCRA. Our attorneys frequently present on this area of law at local and national conferences and publish articles and newsletters on a regular basis to keep our clients up-to-date on current issues and trends in the consumer law area.

The Bassford Remele Consumer Law Defense Practice Team is also dedicted to creditors' rights support as it relates to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ("CFPB"). Our attorneys possess the knowledge and experience necessary to guide agencies through the regulations and compliance requirements under the CFPB.

Our Consumer Law Practice Team is actively involved in bar and trade associations relating to the industry:
