Travis J. Benson

Biography

Travis Benson assists families in all aspects of estate and business succession planning. He develops plans that minimize tax liability and drafts trusts, wills, and business succession documents to implement such plans. Further, families who desire to take advantage of South Dakota’s favorable trust and asset protection laws seek his advice.

His practice includes helping farmers, ranchers, and owners of closely held businesses. A proud South Dakota native, Travis grew up on a grain and hog farm near Trent. As a Certified Farm Succession Coordinator through the International Farm Transition Network, Travis is trained to assist farm families in navigating the complex process of transitioning their farm business to a successor.

He has dedicated his professional life to helping individuals and families by listening, gathering information, and advising on a vast range of issues, including legal, fiscal, public policy, and family matters. Earlier in his career, he served as Legal Counsel, Lobbyist, and Director of the Office of Marriage, Family & Respect Life for the Diocese of Sioux Falls, collaborating closely with his wife Kelly, who is also an attorney at Bassford Remele.

Travis is licensed to practice law in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Nebraska.
