What advice would you give to
young women aspiring to enter your field or any male-dominated industry?
Do not give up! The practice
of law is hard enough as it is. To make it harder, there may be times when you
are the only woman in the room. There may be times when you are mistaken for
administrative staff (such as the court reporter or a paralegal). There may be
times where someone defers to your male co-counsel when asking a question (even
if that co-counsel is less experienced than you). However, not everyone has
these biases. Women in the law have so many allies and supporters. Some of the
best attorneys and judges that I know or have appeared before are women. These
women are your allies, your mentors, and your advocates. There is nothing that
you cannot do.
