Biography
Stacie Barhorst is a strategic litigator and trusted advisor who helps businesses navigate complex disputes, manage regulatory risk, and keep their operations moving forward.
Stacie advocates for businesses across industries in complex consumer finance and commercial disputes. With more than 25 years of litigation experience, Stacie draws on a deep understanding of both the courtroom and the regulatory landscape to help clients resolve conflicts effectively and protect their business interests.
Before joining Bassford Remele, Stacie served as an Assistant Attorney General with the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, where she gained extensive experience representing the State of Illinois. That background informs her thoughtful, strategic approach to litigation today—balancing strong advocacy with practical advice designed to help clients manage risk and achieve their business objectives.
Stacie focuses her practice on defending consumer claims and resolving business and contract disputes, helping companies address lawsuits involving alleged statutory violations, breach of contract, business torts, and fraud. She also draws on substantial experience in employment litigation, including matters involving Title VII, the ADA, and EEOC and state agency charges, which enhances her ability to assess risk, shape strategy, and counsel clients on how their workforce issues intersect with broader business goals.
A seasoned trial attorney, Stacie has first-chaired multiple state court jury trials and a commercial arbitration before JAMS, and she has second-chaired a federal jury trial.
Beyond the courtroom, Stacie partners closely with clients to develop litigation strategies that make both legal and business sense. She offers proactive guidance on compliance with evolving consumer protection laws and regulations, including Regulation F under the FDCPA, as well as Regulations Z and B. Clients value her clear communication, responsive counsel, and ability to find effective, cost-conscious solutions to complex challenges.
