Getting to Know HCBA President-Elect Jessica Klander

NEWS

Jessica Klander is the 2024-2025 Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA) President-Elect. She was recently featured in HCBA's "Getting to Know" column.

What is something you could talk about for hours?

My kids. I promise I don’t unless coaxed. I am aware that not everyone wants to hear about my kids. But I could easily fill hours of your time with every mundane detail if you ask me to.

What's your favorite part of your job?

The people I work with—staff, attorneys and clients. I’m fortunate to work with exceptional staff and attorneys who are not only incredibly smart and talented but also fun and genuinely care about each other. I also really enjoy building meaningful client relationships and feeling as if I have made a positive impact in their lives.

What's your favorite HCBA event or program?

I’m pretty social by nature so I would have to say the Judges Social.

What's a common misconception people have about your practice area?

I primarily defend companies and professionals against malpractice claims. While it might seem that these cases are solely about financial concerns, there's much more at stake. When a professional’s license and livelihood are on the line, the stakes are incredibly high and involve far more than just monetary aspects.

What is something you've been recommending lately?

I just read “Lessons in Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus. It was a fantastic book with an inspiring central heroine. I recommend it!

The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal interviewed Jessica earlier this year. That article can be found here.
